Apple Mighty Mouse Spills Its Guts

I'm happy to report that I was able to put my Mighty Mouse back together form the pile of parts I created. The mouse still seems to work fine. All I need is a little super glue to reattach the plastic ring and the mouse should be none the wiser.

This photo shows the Mighty Mouse fully disassembled.

Mighty Mouse User Experience

At $49 bucks plus shipping I'm glad that my little Mighty Mouse is working after I put it back together. For those of you that are considering purchasing a Mighty Mouse here are few of my thoughts on user experience of the new Apple mouse.

The first thing I notice about a mouse is its weight and how easily it slides across the mousing surface. The Mighty Mouse feels very similar to the Logitech mouse I normally use. Might Mouse moves easily across the mousing surface as a mouse should. This is a much needed improvement over the old Microsoft IntelliMouse I have. In all fairness to Microsoft my IntelliMouse has a few miles on it for sure and its little slider pads are suffering from the use. So, if you want your mouse to move effortlessly for miles to come keep that mousing surface clean so the little mouse feet don't get too many scratches in them.

As you would expect the Mighty Mouse works out of the box without installing any software as a basic pointing devices. In fact by Apple standards it is more than a basic mouse because the vertical scrolling, right click, and left click all work. But, if you want to take full advantage of the Mighty Mouse you will want to install the supplied driver for Mac OS 10.4.2 or higher. The driver software allows you to configure what all four buttons of the mouse will do. One menu option for the mouse configuration that may need an explanation is the "Other..." option. Using the "Other..." option allows you to assign an application to a button. Here are the options for each button
