I am offically sarting a "How tough is PSoC".   Prizes include

First Place: choice of an ICE, PSoC Eval 1 board, or PSoC USBeval board.

Second Place:  One of the remaining two.

Third Plaice:    What ever second place didn't take

Here are my entries.

When Chuck Norris saw PSoC he backed down.

My PSoC was able to do an infinite loop in 7 seconds.  I upgraded the compiler and it now does it in 4.2 seconds.

My PSoC is so tough it can call an ambulance if you need help.

A few days ago I had to program one 29466 chip for a new prototype board. The programming failed so I started to look for any possible reasons while trying agin and again. Eventually I found out that there is something wrong in the power supply but during all this time the PSoC was actually connected on 8.3V power. It is working now :) Unfortunatelly it is very reluctant to improve its preformance doing infinite loops. Maybe because of that burning experience...

The PSoC is so tough, when it's put in backwards, it heats up and puts on a BBQ for all the other chips. Then it parties hard till its put in the right way around. After which its back to work as usual.

The PSoC is so tough, it refuses to cooperate in destructive tests... just to piss you off!

The PSoC is so tough, it has analog AND digital...
    (homage to blues brothers film)

The PSoC is so tough, it doesn't need radiation hardening.

Takes on the work of five other chips and still has time to sleep...

  • IceCube Says:

Just a few years ago, I needed some kind of component in one of my designs.
That's the reason I put a PSoC in.

Then sudden, I became to realize that PSoC couldn't do what it was needed to do.
So I slept and woke up in the middle of the night. Solution has kicked in..
I did some reconfiguring and.... it worked!

That reminds me why I have put a PSoC in.

    Rolf.

  • IceCube Says:

    PSoC shines bright!

Where others stopped after polishing all the bytes, you can still polish PSoC's analog blocks...

  • Blue Llama Says:

PSoC is capable of outputting only two levels: off and power surge.

    PSoC make MacGyver jealous.

When the first PSoC prototypes were powered on, they caused the California rolling blackouts.

The PSoC Comparator User Module is the only thing in the universe that can accurately discriminate between right and wrong.

In the movie War Games, David’s home computer that hacked NORAD was actually a PSoC with the DTMFDialer User Module installed.

If connected to a solar cell, the PSoC powers the Sun.

  • Jeremy Says:

    PSoC is so tough...

...it won't cost you an ARM or a leg
    ...it eats RABBITs for breakfast
    ...it's not PICky

  • Konstantin Says:

Okay, let me tell you this. PSoC is so tough that it can change men and turn even the most maniacal engineer into a lazy PD user. Hence PSoC has become the best friend of the engineer's wife. When I start a new project my wife always says "Do it with that thing". So she knows "that thing" means less work for me and more time for the kids and family. So that tough the PSoC is - 1g against 100kg and still winning :)))

  • antedeluvian Says:

    PSoC must really be tough:

It survived the transition from CMS
It survived the numerous iterations of the Cypress web site
It will survive(I hope) the current access problems of PSoCDeveloper.com

  • BitBangerB Says:

My PSoC is so tough it will take on four MIPS and a dozen op-amps and still have 40 pins tied behind its back.

My PSoC is so tough it can reduce the size of a BOM by 90% while delivering more bang for the buck.

  • LLeung Says:

My PSoC is so tough it give you 400% with dynamic reconfiguration.

  • Joseph C Says:

The PSoC is so tough that unanticipated new features from changing product requirments were met, just by spending a few minutes configuring new modules.

  • Alex Babkin Says:

PSoC is so tough because it can do lots of push-ups and pull-ups. When push-pulled to another MCU, it always "smokes" the competition.

PSoC is so tough, that due to its noise resilience, no matter how loud you shout at it, it won't change its ways.

PSoC is so tough, that it can integrate and differentiate signals at the same time, all while it's asleep.

PSoC is so tough, because it is fluent in the ancient ninja art of _analog_

  • ebirn Says:

The PSoC is so tough, because you are learning on and on.
    1) I started with PD with supplied examples which I extended with my own ideas (here I learned the philosophy of the system and the basics)
    2) Then I modified simple running projects with variants of SW and HW-modules (here I learned "new alternatives" with the strong coupling between HW-modules and SW-API)
    3) The deeper my insight in the documentation got, I learned about more features of PSoC which are not covered by PD
    4) My personal favourite is the SC-module. The deeper my understanding of function got, the more untraditional solutions I found.

PSoC is damm tuf because of its analog arrays............... for me as an application engineer the tuffness of it seems those analog blocks again and again, not only those blocks are analog, those are configurable, instrumentation engineers do remember: after lots of work the project using ad converter is done, but the stabelity is not ther......... but the boss wants it right now??? what will we do??? we will again do some change in circuit and then again put the design in the pcb design section. it takes some days to re-test our design again....... but with PSoC, just reconfigure the analog part, may be put a LPF, may be increase the gain of PGA, and it works.......

i am comparatively new to PSoC, i was working on AVR platform and i was happy, even when i saw the ad about job in cypress as application engineer for PSoC in a national electronics magazine in india for bangalore office, i still remember i laughed myself that what the Hell?? who would want to use PSoC leaving AVR????? but now i understand how tuf psoc is..... inbuilt 7seg display driver, inbuilt hd44780 interface, inbuilt lpf, bpf, 14-bit ad converter............. just like dreams.....

the taughness of psoc comes from its analog part, not from digital part.......as much as i can think of..... i am doing a temp controller project, it is to measure 40uV change per degree..... and in a vero-board, the project is almost completed....... know what i achieved rock solid stability withen few days..........

people who did this type of instrumentation project can understand how tuf it is to design these type of project with discrete component, after lots of tryng and lots of prototyping of pcb we can achieve this much of stabelity..........

but again, if ther was not analog part.... i would not change my project platform for M8C from AVR, i still will consider AVR for Digital only project.

anyways When Chuck Norris saw PSoC he backed down because of its performance of analog reconfigurable blocks and whisper in the air as "PSoC will get the combined power of ARM and analog blocks".

"Dave Van Ess"--thank for your very helpful and accurate application notes. hats off to u........
