WWJD
Last weekend I was in North Seattle and came upon a church that had just finished its service. I saw a young upwardly mobile couple putting something in their trunk of their Pruis. I noticed they had a bumper sticker that said "WHAT WOULD JESUS DRIVE?" I said that he would drive the arrogant, smug, and self righteous from the temple.
It has always concerned me when a group of people wrap their views into a single superior correct package. I have also noticed that when someone is on the "correct" side of an argument they can say whatever they want with no consequence no matter how outrageous.
Its real easy when its an easily defined good verse evil. (This is why Nazis make such good film villains)
Here is a quote from a blog for the Stranger (A Seattle newspaper).
slog.thestranger.com/2008/07/critical_mass_roundup
(Critical mass is an organization that organizes bicycle awareness rides. They ride through the city, run lights, block traffic, etc. These are mostly young men in extreme physical condition with a strong sense of moral superiority for riding bikes.)
"Cars are nothing more than modern day gas chambers and Critical Mass are the Jews being forced inside to die a horrible death.
Thus, the bicyclists were well within their rights to beat the driver to death as he was a Nazi."
I really love it when its good verses good.
A few years back we have a tribe a Indians decide to start whaling. It was great. Indians verses the Whales. The Indians pulled out every guilt trip they could. So did the Whale people. I know people who responded to the Indian claim that it was their tradition to kill Whales. They would say that it was their tradition to scalp Indians, (A truly awful thing to say, but acceptable because you are in the right.)
Or in one of the National parks when endangered goats were eating an endangered plant. I forget which got to be the Nazis that time. Most likely the goats.
Just an observation.
