AN2168: Understanding Switched Capacitor Filters

Integrated switched capacitor filters have been commercially available for several decades. A Programmable System-on-Chip would not be complete if they were not included. A bi-quad topology for switched capacitor filters is shown. The theory of operation is explained. Software tools are introduced to calculate the filter coefficients given a filter’s requirements.
