CY8CLED0xD0x current sense resistor placement

Postby Juggie » Thu Oct 28, 2010 2:55 am

Hello,

I'm starting a project with PowerPSoC device, which is going to have four LED-strings connected with wires.

I was wondering, if I could place the current sense resistors in different place of floating buck topology.
My idea is to reduce wire count by three wires, if I could place sense resistor after the inductor.
This way I could use one wire to route Vin to anode-end of LED-strings and only connect cathode-ends to my board.
Is there any reason why I couldn't or shouldn't do this?

To answer my own question, yes I can do this.

No, you cannot place the current sense resistor in different place. The logic and functions of your circuit will be different that's why you mustn't put it in different place.

This can be done and explained in detail in application note 'Driving LED Fixtures with Reduced Wire Count
